KMG runs ice climbing trips and courses in the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado. The majrity of our ice climbing trips are north of Durango in Cascade Canyon, a 100% natural ice park! Our warmer days and arctic nights provide a perfect setting for waterfalls to freeze into perfect ice climbs! This all natural ice climbing park is perfect for beginer to expert. From introductory weekend ice climbing classes to challenging mixed climbing clinics let KMG can design a custom program to help you build your skills for a lifetime of enjoyment on the ice.
After spending time with our AMGA trained and/ or certified guides on the ice you will have a complete understanding of how to swing the tools, kick the crampons, position your body for balance and control, and progress smoothly up the ice with grace and poise! You'll also have a blast experiencing this outstanding winter sport! For those seeking advanced skills, our exceprt guides and instructors will make sure you gain techniques for your continued improvement such as lead climbing, anchor building, and multi-pitch climbing systems for the backcountry.
Course topics include but are not limited to:
- Equipment selection and use
- Body positioning
- Basic movement on the ice
- How to stay warm while in a freezer! Nobody likes to be cold! Learn how to stay warm while climbing ice!
- Winter rope techniques
Price Includes:
- AMGA trained or certifed guide fee
- Transportation from Durango CO to Cascade Canyon and back. Check with your guide service of choice. Do they make you drive yourself?
- Technical climbing equipment. We supply you with brand new Black Diamond ice tools and crampons and La Sportiva boots at no additional cost.
Price Does Not Include:
- Travel to Durango, CO from your home location
- Items of personal nature such as personal clothing or gear
- Hotels before and after trip
- Recommended Travel/trip cancelation insurance
- Guide/ Staff gratuity
Prerequisites:
- None! Come have fun and try out ice climbing!
Registration:
- To secure your spot on this trip you will need to fill out our domestic registration packets. A 50% deposit is required.
