Kling Mountain Guides and Durango Mountain Resort

Kling Mountain Guides is proud to be the Official Mountain Guide service of Purgatory and Durango Mountain Resort, "your home mountain!".  We run a vast number of trips at Durango Mountain Resort year round.  In the winter we offer avalanche courses and, backcountry skiing programs.  In the summer we offer coporate team building, lift assisted backpacking, and the Purgatory Challenege Course (PCC)!

Summer Programs

• Come explore Durango Mountain Resort on one of Lift  Assisted backpacking programs!  These are perfect for the family or first time hiker!
• Purgatory Challenge Course (PCC) A brand new addition to Purgatory this summer is the Purgatory Challeneg Course or PCC.  This high and low elelments ropes course is great for families, friends, coporate trainings, and more!

Winter Programs

• From Introduction to Backcountry Skiing and American Institue for Avalanche Education (AIARE) Avalanche Courses we do it all at Durango Mountain Resort!  Check out our different winter offerings here!

 

*Kling Mountain Guides operates under special use permits in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park , Moab BLM, Indian Creek BLM, Manti-La Sal National Forest, Cedar Mesa Grand Gulch BLM, and Dalla Mountain Park areas.  Kling Mountain Guides operates under the Durango Mountain Resort operating plan in the San Juan National Forest.  Kling Mountain Guides LLC provides services and employment regardless of ethnic or cultural heritage, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or physical handicap. Josh Kling operates as an employee of Mountain Trip, San Juan College, Fort Lewis College, and the Silverton Avalanche School.. Mountain Trip, San Juan College, Fort Lewis College, and the Silverton Avalanche School all operate under special use permits from the United States Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management in their respective operating districts.**

Backcountry Experience at Durango Mountain Resort

Backcountry Experience is now a mountain shop located in the Purgatory plaza at Durango Mountain Resort!

Backcountry Experience is a full service backcountry skiing and climbing shop where service comes first.  They advocate human powered backcountry travel. 

Backcountry equipment is no longer heavy, bulky, and uncomfortable! Trade those old heavy and cold boots in for the new model and watch you skiing and comfort improve instantly!

The Backcountry Experience Mountain Shop is fully stocked with complete line of backcountry equipment available for rental and demo. Items include the latest in alpine touring and telemark skis and boots. Stop by the mountain shop and let the professional staff get you into the proper backcountry gear!

 

Kling Mountain Guides is proud to partner with the Durango Rafting Company. DRC takes pride in being the only rafting company in Durango that makes family fun their #1 priority.

The Rock ‘N Raft program consists of a two hour raft trip and a four hour climbing excursion! Float down the Animas River through the heart of Durango with professional raft guides who specialize in family rafting trips. Enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown Durango from the river’s perspective through Class II and III rapids - perfect for first-timers!

Then switch from boats to ropes as you scale the sandstone cliffs overlooking Durango and the beautiful Animas Valley. Let a professional mountain guide "show you the ropes" as you learn the basics of rock climbing all while having fun!
