Avalanche Education

  • From half day introduction courses to comprehensive Level 2 AIARE courses, KMG has a complete selection of courses to meet your needs.  Come learn with the company that works with numerous institutions of higher learning!

Introduction to Backcountry Skiing

  • This course is ideal for those with limited backcountry experience.  Build upon the skills you learned in previous ski and avalanche courses with this two day course.

    Durango Mountain Resort Skiing

        • KMG is the total package! If you are not ready  to ski the backcountry, come take ski with a KMG guide at Durango Mountain Resort.  We also offer a host of inbounds Companion Rescue Clinics as well as inbounds Intro to Avalanche courses!  Find out more.

"European style" Hut Trips"

  • Come experience the European "stay-cation" with KMG in the San Juan Mountains.  The San Juans are filled with numerous backcountry huts.  Ski big all day and then go back to a warm hut and even a hot shower!

Backcountry Experience is now a mountain shop located in the Purgatory plaza at Durango Mountain Resort!

Backcountry Experience is a full service backcountry skiing and climbing shop where service comes first.  They advocate human powered backcountry travel. 

Backcountry equipment is no longer heavy, bulky, and uncomfortable! Trade those old heavy and cold boots in for the new model and watch you skiing and comfort improve instantly!

The Backcountry Experience Mountain Shop is fully stocked with complete line of backcountry equipment available for rental and demo. Items include the latest in alpine touring and telemark skis and boots. Stop by the mountain shop and let the professional staff get you into the proper backcountry gear!
